PERSONALISED CARE

FRACTIONAL SKIN RESURFACING
WITH THE FRAXEL DUAL LASER

WHAT IS FRAXEL?

The Fraxel Dual system is a non-ablative laser resurfacing treatment designed to address changes in your skin’s texture, tone, or pigmentation. It works by delivering controlled pulses of light energy into the skin that stimulate your body’s natural healing response. Each pulse creates microscopic zones of heat while preserving the integrity of the surface layer, encouraging new collagen production and healthy cell turnover.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Fraxel Dual Laser combines two precise wavelengths: 1927 nanometres (nm), which targets surface pigmentation and uneven tone, and 1550 nm, which reaches the deeper layers that support skin structure. Your clinician will adjust the treatment settings and depth to suit your skin condition and goals. This dual-wavelength design allows for targeted resurfacing and a shorter recovery period than ablative lasers.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Because it treats only a fraction of the skin at a time, Fraxel is suitable for a range of different skin tones and types, including olive and darker complexions. This makes it a more versatile choice than other laser treatments, which can carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation. Especially in deeper skin tones.

Fraxel may not be suitable during pregnancy or for those with active skin conditions. Your clinician will assess your skin to find the best approach for you.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FRAXEL TREATMENT

You’ll start with a consultation to determine if the Fraxel laser treatment is the right fit for your skin type and goals. From there, your clinician will create a tailored plan, recommending the ideal treatment strength, number of sessions, and complementary modalities.

During your treatment session

Timelines are a general guide and may vary based on your skin response and treatment plan.

  • Each session is 60 minutes, depending on the area.
  • Often completed as a series of 3 to 5 sessions spaced over a few weeks.
  • We’ll prepare the skin, potentially applying a numbing cream.
  • Protective eyewear will be provided.
  • You may feel a gentle warmth or light prickling as the laser passes over the skin.
  • Mild redness or sensitivity can occur afterwards, similar to sun exposure.
  • Soothing products are applied immediately after treatment.

Preparing for your treatment

Preparation guidance may differ based on your skin and medical history.

  • Pause active skincare (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs) for 3 to 5 days before treatment.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure before treatment.
  • Avoid waxing, tanning, or heat-based treatments before your appointment.
  • Don’t take ibuprofen or other forms of blood-thinning medication the day before.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free from makeup, sunscreen, and self-tanning products.
  • Inform your clinician about any recent cosmetic procedures or medication changes.
  • Use your recommended skincare to help prepare the skin for treatment.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for around 1 to 2 weeks and apply SPF 50+ daily.
  • Hydrate the skin with gentle, non-active moisturisers.
  • Avoid direct heat, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 48 hours.
  • Mild flaking or dryness may occur as the skin renews. Avoid exfoliation or picking.
  • Skip makeup for 24 to 48 hours or until redness has settled.
  • Follow your clinician’s personalised aftercare plan to support recovery.

YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here, our dermal clinicians have answered some of your most commonly asked questions about the Fraxel laser treatment. For tailored guidance, you’re always welcome to contact the clinic.

Fraxel is most commonly performed on the face, neck, and décolletage, but can also be used on areas such as the hands, shoulders, and back. The fractionated technology targets localised texture changes, pigmentation, or mild scarring, helping to create a more even-looking surface appearance over time.

Fraxel treatment costs will vary depending on the number of sessions and the size of the treatment area. Pricing is discussed during your consultation once your clinician has assessed your skin and treatment goals. All costs are outlined clearly before starting any treatment plan.

It’s normal to experience temporary redness, swelling, or a warm sensation after treatment. The skin may feel slightly tight, and light flaking or dryness can occur as it renews. These effects usually settle within a few days. Your clinician will provide aftercare instructions to support healing and ongoing skin recovery.

If you notice any unexpected discomfort, excessive swelling, or prolonged irritation, contact your clinician for follow-up care and guidance.

The skin’s renewal process begins soon after treatment. This will vary from person to person. Subtle changes in texture may gradually develop over the next few weeks as the skin continues to regenerate. Collagen production occurs beneath the surface, with visible refinement building progressively across your treatment course.

Yes. Fraxel is often integrated into broader treatment plans to support skin renewal. Your clinician may recommend combining it with modalities such as chemical peels, microneedling, or LED therapy to address different layers of the skin. The right combination depends on your goals and overall skin health, and will be discussed during your consultation.

FRAXEL BEFORE AND AFTER

Treatment results are a reflection of the journey. Each represents an individual’s unique skin and treatment plan. Outcomes will naturally vary, as every client responds differently.

REAL FRAXEL LASER RESULTS

Fraxel works at deeper levels of the skin, where texture and structural changes tend to develop over time. In the results shown, this depth-focused approach is reflected in skin that looks smoother and more refined, with uneven texture and fine lines appearing less prominent. These changes typically emerge gradually, as the skin remodels across a series of treatments.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

All cosmetic treatments involve potential risks, side effects, and downtime. Everyone’s skin responds differently, so results vary and are not guaranteed. A clinical consultation is required to assess suitability and discuss expected outcomes, after-care, and alternative options.
