LUTRONIC eCO2 PLUS™ LASER TREATMENT
ABLATIVE FRACTIONAL LASER
RESURFACING WITH THE eCO2 PLUS
WHAT DOES A CO2 LASER DO?
The Lutronic eCO2 Plus uses carbon dioxide laser energy at a targeted wavelength that is absorbed by the water within your skin. This creates microchannels through the outer layers and into the tissue below, triggering your skin’s natural healing response.
As the treated area starts to repair itself, new surface tissue forms while the heat within the deeper layers of the skin stimulates new collagen production and remodelling.
During this process, older collagen within scarred or textured skin is gradually broken down as new collagen forms and reorganises. Over time, this can help to soften the appearance of scars or burns, refine uneven texture, and reduce the depth of more established lines and wrinkles.

WHAT IS IT USED FOR?

HOW DOES IT WORK?
The eCO2 Plus is a fractional, ablative CO2 laser. This means it actively resurfaces the outer layers while treating only a fraction of the skin at a time. This differs from non-ablative fractional lasers, like Fraxel® and Clear + Brilliant™, which target deeper layers while leaving the skin’s surface intact.
This CO2 laser also varies where each laser pulse is delivered. Its Controlled Chaos Technology™ places each pulse in a randomised pattern, spreading heat across the treatment area and reducing localised heat build-up. Your clinician will adjust the depth, density, energy, and scan pattern according to your skin type and area being treated. These settings determine how closely the treatment zones are spaced and the overall intensity of the resurfacing.
WHO IS IT FOR?
CO2 laser treatment is often considered for more established, fully healed acne scarring, surgical, traumatic, or burn scars. The skin must no longer be an open wound or actively healing because the treatment is designed to remodel existing scar tissue. It can also be used for resurfacing deeper lines and wrinkles, uneven texture, stretch marks, and mild skin laxity.
Because the eCO2 is more intensive and involves a longer recovery period, suitability depends on your skin type, pigmentation response, medical history, and the area being treated. Your clinician will assess these factors during your consultation and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR CO2 LASER TREATMENT
Every treatment starts with a consultation to assess your medical and healing history, the type and depth of scarring or textural changes, and any previous treatments. This helps us determine whether CO₂ laser resurfacing is suitable for your skin.
During your treatment session
Timelines are a general guide and may vary based on your skin response and treatment plan.
- Each session is approximately 45 minutes, depending on the area.
- Often completed as a series of 6 to 12 sessions spaced over a few weeks, depending on skin health and healing.
- We’ll prepare the skin, likely applying a numbing cream.
- Protective eyewear will be provided.
- You may feel a hot, sharp, or prickling sensation as the CO2 laser passes over the skin.
- Redness, swelling, or sensitivity can occur afterwards.
- Pinpoint bleeding or light oozing can also occur following more intensive treatment.
- Soothing products are applied immediately after treatment.

Preparing for your treatment
Preparation guidance may differ based on your skin and medical history.
- Pause active skincare (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs) for 3 to 5 days before treatment.
- Avoid prolonged sun exposure before treatment.
- Avoid waxing, tanning, or heat-based treatments before your appointment.
- Don’t take ibuprofen or other forms of blood-thinning medication the day before.
- Arrive with clean skin, free from makeup, sunscreen, and self-tanning products.
- Inform your clinician about any recent cosmetic procedures or medication changes.
- Use your recommended skincare to help prepare the skin for treatment.

After your treatment
Recovery times are different for everyone, and aftercare will be recommended by the treating clinician. If you need personalised aftercare advice, please contact the clinic.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for around 1 to 2 weeks and apply SPF 50+ daily.
- Hydrate the skin with gentle, non-active moisturisers.
- Apply any prescribed compounded silicone and occlusive cream as directed.
- Avoid direct heat, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 48 hours.
- Crusting, peeling, and temporary darkening may occur as the skin renews.
- Avoid exfoliation or picking.
- Skip makeup for 24 to 48 hours or until redness has settled.
- Follow your clinician’s personalised aftercare plan to support recovery.

YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Here, our dermal clinicians have answered some of your most commonly asked questions about the CO₂ laser treatment. For tailored guidance, you’re always welcome to contact the clinic.
No treatment can remove a scar completely or return the skin to exactly how it looked before the injury. CO₂ laser resurfacing aims to reduce the contrast between the scar and surrounding skin by softening raised edges and creating a more even texture. Refer to studies done by lutronic there are many peer reviewed jounrnal whihch will show and prove the results this would be a good ref to demo the effacicy of the machine as it been around a long time some paper show studis that have show to reduce skin cancer by up o 80%
How much a scar changes depends on its structure. Broader or shallower scars may respond differently from scars that are deep, raised, tightly attached to the tissue below, or made up of several scar types. In some cases, CO₂ laser may form one part of a broader treatment plan rather than being used alone.
Learn more about different scar types and the treatments that may be considered on our scarring page.
CO₂ laser resurfacing can be used to improve the surface appearance of some types of acne scarring, particularly broader, indented scars where the skin’s surface has healed unevenly. The treatment can help soften sharp edges and reduce visible depth.
Acne scars can include rolling, boxcar, ice-pick, raised, and mixed patterns, and they don’t all respond to the same treatment. Active acne may also need to be managed first to reduce the risk of new scars forming during the treatment process.
Explore how acne scars form and which treatment approaches may be considered for different types on our acne scarring page.
Surface recovery from fractional CO₂ laser commonly takes approximately one to two weeks, although the timing and appearance vary with treatment intensity.
During the first few days, the area may feel hot, swollen, tight, or sensitive. Small areas of crusting, dryness, or temporary darkening may then develop before the surface begins to flake and renew. Once this settles, the new skin may remain pink, sensitive, and more reactive than usual for some time.
The treatment area, settings, skin type, and individual healing response can all affect the amount of redness, swelling, and peeling you’ll experience.
Following your prescribed aftercare is the most important step for managing redness and supporting healing. See manual
Use only the cleansers, moisturisers, barrier products, and sun protection recommended by your clinician. Avoid hot water, rubbing, exfoliating, active skincare, direct sunlight, strenuous exercise, and other sources of heat while the skin is recovering. Cool compresses may be recommended during the initial period, but products should not be added without checking with your clinician.
Contact the clinic if redness begins worsening rather than settling or occurs with increasing pain, spreading warmth, discharge, or blistering.
After treatment, avoid anything that could irritate the healing surface or increase heat and inflammation.
This generally includes picking or peeling the skin, scrubs, retinoids, exfoliating acids, fragranced products, or makeup before the skin is ready. Direct sun exposure, saunas, steam rooms, swimming, and strenuous exercise should also be avoided.
Do not restart your usual skincare based only on how the surface looks. The skin barrier may still be sensitive after visible crusting or peeling has settled, so products should be reintroduced gradually according to your aftercare plan.
The price of CO₂ laser treatment depends on the size and location of the area being treated, the depth of resurfacing required, and whether you’re treating an isolated scar or a broader area of skin. A small surgical scar, for example, will involve a different treatment plan from full-face resurfacing or an area with several scar types.
The recommended settings and number of sessions can also affect the overall cost. Some clients may be suited to one more intensive treatment, while others may benefit from several staged sessions or a combination of treatments. Your clinician will assess the area first, explain what is included in your treatment and aftercare, and provide a personalised quote before you proceed.

REAL CO2 LASER RESULTS
The eCO₂ Plus™ results shown reflect how scarring and texture can change over a series of staged treatments. Each treatment is tailored in depth and intensity, and each session is spaced to optimise recovery. As the skin heals and remodels, changes develop gradually and will look different for every client.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All cosmetic treatments involve potential risks, side effects, and downtime. Everyone’s skin responds differently, so results vary and are not guaranteed. A clinical consultation is required to assess suitability and discuss expected outcomes, after-care, and alternative options.
