PRECISION VASCULAR THERAPY
WITH THE CANDELA VBEAM LASER

WHAT IS VBEAM?

The Candela Vbeam is a pulsed-dye laser (PDL) designed to address visible redness and vascular changes in the skin. It produces a yellow-light wavelength using a specialised dye source, which is naturally drawn to the pigment inside your red blood cells, called haemoglobin. This allows the laser to selectively target vessels that contribute to flushing, rosacea-related redness, broken capillaries, and vascular birthmarks, while aiming to minimise impact on the surrounding tissue.

A VBeam® laser treatment is being performed on the facial area, with both patient and practitioner wearing protective eyewear.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Vbeam laser delivers short pulses of 595-nanometre (nm) light into the skin, targeting the red pigment inside the blood vessels. As the light converts to heat, it produces a controlled thermal response, causing the vessel to collapse and gradually clear through the body’s natural processes. Before each pulse, Dynamic Cooling™ technology sprays a cryogen to help protect the skin’s surface. Your clinician will adjust the energy levels and pulse duration based on your skin condition and the pattern of visible vessels.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Because it targets blood vessels rather than pigment in the skin, the Vbeam laser is often considered for individuals experiencing persistent facial redness from Rosacea or visible vessels. It’s suitable for most lighter to medium skin tones within the Fitzpatrick I–IV spectrum.

It may not be suitable during pregnancy or if there is active skin irritation, an impaired barrier, or other skin conditions that need to be cleared. Your clinician will assess your skin type and medical history to ensure this treatment aligns with your goals.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR VBEAM TREATMENT

First, you’ll have a consultation with an experienced dermal clinician to understand your skin, assess the pattern of visible vessels, and determine whether Vbeam is the right treatment for you.

During your treatment session

Timelines are a general guide and may vary based on your skin response and treatment plan.

  • Each session is 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area.
  • Protective eyewear will be provided.
  • You may feel a brief warmth or light snap with each pulse.
  • Redness or swelling can follow and usually subsides within hours to a few days.
  • Cooling measures are applied during treatment to protect the skin.

Preparing for your treatment

Preparation guidance may differ based on your skin and medical history.

  • Pause active skincare (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs) for 3 to 5 days beforehand.
  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure before treatment.
  • Avoid waxing, tanning, or heat-based treatments before your appointment.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free from makeup, sunscreen, and self-tanning products.
  • Inform your clinician about any recent cosmetic procedures or medication changes.

After your treatment

Recovery times are different for everyone. If you need personalised aftercare advice, please contact the clinic.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for around 3 to 5 days and apply SPF 50+ daily.
  • Hydrate the skin with gentle, non-active moisturisers.
  • Avoid direct heat, steam rooms, and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Mild swelling or redness may occur. Cold compresses may be recommended.
  • Avoid picking or exfoliating if slight crusting or darkening of vessels appears.
  • Makeup can usually be applied the next day once redness has settled.
The patient is provided with an after-care kit from Victorian Dermal Group to support their post-treatment routine.

YOUR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here, our dermal clinicians have answered some of your most commonly asked questions about the Vbeam laser. For tailored guidance, you’re always welcome to contact the clinic.

Recovery time varies depending on the settings used and the vessels being treated. Most people experience temporary redness or swelling that settles within 24 to 48 hours, and in some cases, longer. This will vary between individuals. In some cases, small areas may appear darker or mildly bruised before clearing as the vessel resolves. Your clinician will guide you based on your treatment settings and expected recovery timeline.

Yes, mild to moderate and in some cases severe swelling, especially around the cheeks and under-eye area, can occur and usually settles within 24 hours. This will vary from person to person and will depend on the treatment area and strength.

Occasionally, targeted vessels may darken or bruise following treatment, particularly when higher vascular-focused settings are used. These changes typically settle within several days to two weeks as the vessels resolve. Your clinician will let you know if this is likely based on your treatment settings.

Vbeam treatment costs depend on the size of the area treated, the number of sessions required, and whether the treatment is combined with other modalities. Your clinician will provide a clear treatment plan and pricing during your consultation so you know what to expect before getting started.

Vbeam and IPL use different light technologies and are chosen based on the type and depth of vessels present.

  • Vbeam is a pulsed-dye laser designed to target vascular structures more precisely, making it a common choice for conditions like rosacea-associated redness, broken capillaries, and visible facial vessels.
  • IPL (intense pulsed light) is a broad-spectrum light treatment that can diffuse redness alongside pigment and overall tone.

Your clinician will recommend the most appropriate option after assessing your skin and vascular pattern.

Capillaries treated with Vbeam typically begin to fade gradually over several days to a few weeks. The timeline varies depending on individual skin behaviour. Some vessels may darken temporarily before clearing as the body processes them. Depending on the size and depth of the vessels, more than one session may be recommended. Your clinician will assess your vascular pattern and discuss an expected timeframe during your consultation.

COMMONLY TREATED SKIN CONDITIONS

Vbeam is often recommended when persistent redness or surface vessels are contributing to uneven tone or flushing. Explore how this treatment may form part of your personalised skin plan.

VBEAM BEFORE AND AFTER

Treatment results are a reflection of the journey. Each represents an individual’s unique skin and treatment plan. Outcomes will naturally vary, as every client responds differently.

REAL VBEAM LASER RESULTS

These before-and-after images show changes in background redness and vascular prominence within the skin. As redness settles, the surrounding skin tone appears more even, which can make acne-related scarring appear less visually dominant. This shift in overall skin balance is typically observed over a course of treatments as vascular activity is addressed.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

All cosmetic treatments involve potential risks, side effects, and downtime. Everyone’s skin responds differently, so results vary and are not guaranteed. A clinical consultation is required to assess suitability and discuss expected outcomes, after-care, and alternative options.
