Cells inside each hair follicle divide and multiply. As space fills up inside the follicle, it pushes the older cells out. After those older cells harden and exit the follicle, they form hair shafts. The shaft is comprised of dead tissue and a protein called keratin.
Hair doesn't always grow. Individual hairs go through active and resting phases. Differences in growth phases, hair follicle sizes, and shaft density are different for each body part, and vary from person to person.
Some people have a condition called hypertrichosis, where a clinically abnormal amount of hair grows all over their bodies. Other people just don't like the amount of hair they have. It's completely subjective, and genetics or medical conditions and medicines can factor into the equation.
If you're tired of constantly shaving, waxing, and plucking the hairs on your body, you can get laser hair removal. Using the Candela GentleMax Pro laser, we can effectively reduce the hair on your body over a number of sessions.
The laser produces a concentrated beam of light, which is drawn in by the hair follicle. The follicle heats up, and in the next 7-10 days, the hairs will fall out. Most patients require 4-6 treatments, spread over 4-6 week intervals, to achieve maximum results.
Our GentleMax Pro laser uses a Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) which emits a cryogen cooling spray between laser pulses. This helps reduce any potential pain you may feel. Our clients often say the treatment feels like a rubber band snapping on the skin.
We can also apply a topical numbing cream prior to commencing the treatment. If you're concerned about pain, we can patch test your skin before we perform the laser treatment.
Prices vary according to which part of your body you want to remove hair from. One session can cost as little as $50, or as much as $550. We also offer packages. Contact us to find out more about our pricing.
Treatment times vary depending on your circumstances and needs, and where you'll be receiving treatment. More often than not, the treatment duration is less than an hour.
Most procedures have a very low risk of adverse side effects. Some clients experience pigment changes which generally disappear with time.
If you have fair or red hair, the treatment will not be as effective. Depending on the tone of your skin, you may experience pigment changes more than other skin types. We can discuss any concerns you have at your initial consultation.
