Lines and wrinkles

Why do we get them?

How do lines and wrinkles form?

Wrinkles are a natural part of aging, but other lifestyle factors and even genetics can increase the likelihood of developing lines on your face. Factors can include:

  • Sun exposure
  • Pollution
  • Smoking
  • Repeated facial expressions (like furrowing your brow, frowning, or smiling)
  • Stress

Why do I have wrinkles?

Our bodies produce natural collagen fibres, which keeps our skin elastic and taut. The older we get, the less collagen our body produces. So, unless you've been following a hydrating and collagen-inducing skin care regime, you've likely developed extra wrinkles and fine lines.

We cannot understate the importance of sunscreen enough. There's a common misconception (outside of the cosmetic world) that you only need to wear sunscreen when you're at the beach, or it's a hot day. But, you actually should be wearing sunscreen everyday. If you haven't, then this is a probable cause for unwanted wrinkles.

How can I get rid of them?

Some people love their wrinkles and fine lines, and others hate them. We're not here to judge, only to facilitate removing and reducing wrinkles if that's what you want. We use a range of lasers to tighten the skin, like the Dual Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant lasers, or skin needling.

When you visit us for an initial consultation, we'll take photograph your skin with our Clinical Imaging System. Then, we'll chat with you about what you want to achieve. Taking into account your lifestyle, desired outcome, and skin type, we'll suggest a suitable option for reducing your wrinkles and fine lines.

I'm in my 20s, and I have wrinkles — why?

You can get wrinkles at any age. Lifestyle factors, such as smoking, sun exposure, and pollutants in the air, can all increase the likelihood of getting wrinkles.

Does smiling really give you wrinkles?

Unfortunately, all facial expressions can cause wrinkles. This doesn't mean you shouldn't smile! In fact, frowning uses more muscles than smiling, meaning it can cause more wrinkles, fast. Try to tune in to when you're furrowing your brow in concentration, or frowning in displeasure, and relax your face if you can.

Is it painful to remove wrinkles clinically?

There is a certain amount of discomfort involved in our treatments, depending on which technology or product we use. But, it's minimal. All of our procedures are non-invasive, and anti-wrinkle injections are minimally invasive. We can also apply topical numbing creams to reduce any unpleasant sensations.

Can I get rid of my wrinkles naturally?

You can definitely reduce the appearance of your wrinkles and tighten your skin by using skin care products. But you'll never get rid of your wrinkles completely, and it will take much longer to see visible results. With our skin solutions, our clients say they can see a noticeable change in their skin after just one treatment.

Our approach to treating lines and wrinkles

You deserve to be comfortable in your own skin. We treat all our clients as individuals, in a comfortable, non-judgmental environment. We don't believe in treating our clients with a 'one size fits all' approach which is why we won't provide a treatment until you've had your first consultation with us.

This is a free service, where we'll ask for your medical history and details about your lifestyle. Sometimes, prescription medicines can interact with our treatments, so we may need to call your GP or refer you to a dermatologist if we believe our solutions are not appropriate.

How we treat lines and wrinkles

Step 1

Free initial consultation

When you visit our clinic in Kew for your first skin assessment, you'll need to fill out a few forms. We'll ask you for information on your medical history and lifestyle factors. Once we have this information, we'll take images of your skin using our Clinical Imaging System.

After we've processed the images, and discussed your concerns with you, we'll formulate a tailored treatment plan. You can choose to book your first session while you're at the clinic, or go home, and book later.

Step 2

How we'll clear your skin of fine lines and wrinkles

Once we've assessed your skin, we'll choose the best method to treat your skin. We use Dual Fraxel and Clear + Brilliant lasers to tighten the skin, and smooth out textural irregularities. Our clients usually see results within one to two weeks.

We also offer skin needling. You'll usually need to schedule three to five treatments for optimal results. Otherwise, you can opt for anti-wrinkle injections. While these can cause slight pain in some of our clients, you will see results almost straight away.

Step 3

How to prepare for anti-wrinkle treatments

The preparation requirements vary depending on the treatment, but in general, you'll need to:

  • Use sunscreen daily
  • Avoid natural or artificial tanning two weeks prior to your treatment
  • Don't wax or thread the area we'll be treating
  • Don't undergo any other cosmetic procedures like chemical peels, or other laser treatments

We'll give you more details on what to expect and how to prepare for your treatment when you book your appointment.

Step 4

How to look after your skin post-treatment

Straight after your treatment, you'll need to apply a cold compress to the treated area to reduce potential swelling.

You'll also need to avoid:

  • The gym for 24 hours post-treatment
  • Hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms
  • Chlorinated or saltwater swimming pools

Again, we'll give you detailed instructions on how to look after your skin once you get home. And if you have any questions, you're always welcome to phone us or email us. We'll give you a follow-up phone call to check in with you one week after your treatment.
